• Reflect some of the ways that you want to assess your students, i.e. monitor their level of understanding what you're teaching.

Some ways which I have already assessed my students is they did a KWL chart on motion which gave me and idea of the students prerequisite knowledge. I am also monitoring my students understanding by constantly asking the students to come up with their own examples for every concept which we are learning. The students have been actively participating in sharing their examples with the class which has been helping me out a lot. The students have just completed a lab on speed, they did the experiment to receive their data, and will be answering the conclusion questions for homework. After grading these labs I will have a better idea of who is understanding the material on speed and velocity. When I walked around the room looking over the students homework, most of them were putting in a great effort on the speed problems I assigned. I am trying to review the material from the last class at the start of the next class to help reiterate the key concepts. Also the students will be taking quizzes and tests throughout the 7 weeks which I am their teacher.

  • Describe your grading policy, i.e. how you will assign scores to represent performance. Explain why you are choosing to use this method. If you are continuing your CT's grading policy, explain what you feel are the strengths and weaknesses of this approach.

The grading policy which I will be using is homework/participation is 15% of the grade, Labs are 20% of the grade, quizzes are 25% of the grade, and tests are 35% of the grade. The reason which I am using this method is because this is the method which my cooperating teacher uses. I am continuing this method because A. I dont want to confuse the students and B. I dont want to step on my teachers toes and change the method which she has been using for 10 years. If I was starting at the beginning fo the year I may use the method where each assignment is designated a certain amount of points which all goes towards the final grade. This is the method which I most enjoyed when I was in school because I always knew what my grade was because I could keep track of it. Also it was easier to figure out what I needed to get on the next assignment to try to boost my grade whatever amount of points I was trying to boost my grade. Another reason which I like the total points method is because it is definitely easier to add up the grades at the end of the quarter or the midterm mark. That method of grading would defintely be less time consuming when doing the students grades, and I just feel that it is the most fair way of grading. With saying that I overwhelmingly like the total points method better, I am definitely continueing my cooperating teachers method for grading the students which has tests and quizzes weighted.
